Huang Guofu, of Tong Nan, China, has been painting with his feet since he was 12 years old. A freak electrocution accident at the age of 4 left him armless. Unable to attend school, Guofu spend his days at home flipping through comic strips. Eventually, a brush ended up in his possession, and gradually he taught himself how to paint with his feet. After years of diligence, by age 7, Guofu was drawing the figures he saw in the comics, and by age 12, he began receiving formal lessons from a professor Zhao Yi for two years.
In 1986, his father was stricken with bone cancer, and Guofu took to the streets to draw and sell his works to raise funds for his treatment.
A flood in Hu Nan in 1993, compelled Guofu to take to the streets again for a week straight, raising roughly 5-6 thousand RMB, all of which he donated to the devastated area.
